Leadership transitions are an inevitable part of every nonprofit’s life cycle. While these transitions can be daunting and often carry an emotional weight, the leadership transition and development process can benefit both the people involved and the organization. Transitioning from one nonprofit leader to another is an opportunity for investing in your overall organizational strategy and growth. Leadership transition is a time-bound, four-phase transition from one leader to another. Join Propel Nonprofits to learn about preparing for an upcoming leadership change, setting yourself up for a successful search process, and onboarding your new leader for short-term and long-term success.

About the Presenters:

Mario Hernandez
Hernandez is a firm believer of nonprofits’ ability to build and sustain a more just society. He has been in the sector for nearly 20 years and have served in numerous executive leadership and board roles—executive director, vice president and chief operating office, board chair, board vice chair, and board treasurer. Hernandez is excited to share what he has learned leading organizations with other current and emerging nonprofit leaders. I enjoy talking strategy, methodical operation plans and marketing campaigns, collective impact through collaboration, inclusive leadership development, and paying for it all through sustainable business models. St. Paul is his home. He crosses the river daily. Family and connection to community matter to Hernandez.

Amanda Ziebell Mawanda
Mawanda believes in the power of relationship and the ability of our communities to solve the most pressing challenges we face. She has over a decade of experience consulting with nonprofits, faith-based groups, schools, and governmental agencies around organizational leadership and health, strategy, and network development. She enjoys working with clients who are committed to making a difference in their communities and is passionate about building common vision, igniting creativity, and unleashing energy for positive change. As a doctoral candidate, Mawanda's research focuses on transformational leadership practices and learning communities. She lives in the Corcoran neighborhood of Minneapolis, where she grew and preserved food from her community garden plot, read poetry, cooks delicious meals for those she loves, and create beautiful pieces of origami.
